haha, yeah, i didn't mean *totally* EVIL---just "a way to signify a particular woman"...so I take back "Evil" and maybe replace it with Problematic Woman. :-)

about plastic handcuffs--at least there are tricks to slipping out of the metal handcuffs...and many times even if they're too tight, they aren't going to rip into you like plastic ones do...my friend had them so tight they made her bleed...

heh, thanks for the "fierce" compliment - means a lot coming from you.

y'know, even though what she said/the opinion she has pretty much sucks, i wouldn't want to characterize the Dyke March organizer as evil. i mean, she's probably also done a whole lot of work and thinks a whole lot of things that i'd be down with. maybe i'm being too generous - she might well think that me and folks like me are evil - but, yeah.

and yes - those plastic handcuffs - those, i have no problem calling evil. pure evil. it was sad/scary/fucked up, what i saw them do to people during the RNC drama.

oh hey, thanks for posting about it - i'll check it out.

i use she/her/hers pronouns. my usual explanation: they don't really fit right, but they fit best, right now at least.

goddamn you're fierce!!! i would have passed out at the speach thing, then I would have just walked away from Evil Woman.
this is absolutly not a rambling pambly entry--for those of us (ME) who have problems standing up to intimidation, you have given some very valuable skills/lessons.
ps. i have heard consistantly that the plastic handcuffs are way worse than the metal ones...i've got a friend who got nerve damage from the plastic ones...

Jack, I posted about your post over at feministe. I should probably have asked beforehand, but I'll go ahead and do it now: do you have a pronoun preference? I didn't want to assume.

I think we probably agree more than we disagree about the Dyke March, including getting pissed at efforts about including trans men and total disregard for the need to include trans women.

I guess my major questions, though, are:
- what about folks who are not male-ID'd, but not strongly woman-identified? what about folks like me who just define themselves as genderqueer, or butches, or something like that?
- in terms of trans men - I don't really like the idea of instantaneously cutting someone out of a community to which they've belonged for some time at the moment of transition. I also believe in the importance/right to women's spaces, but there's got to be some kinder, more considerate and understanding way.

Personally, I find plastic handcuffs way more painful than metal ones.

I keep wanting to say something articulate about why I disagree about the Dyke March and think it's critical that it be for self-identified women only... (I say this as a stone butch who's not strongly woman-identified. I really value dyke space that does NOT include male-ID'd, non-woman identified people and I get really pissed at all the efforts to include transmen in women's space and the way no one cares about how much more important it is to include transwomen, who actually do ID as women). But I really don't have it in me right now to write about. One day soon, though.
